Theatre as 'The Cave' is an exercise on the use of darkness and its complexities in art and performance for a thesis being written by Lauren Cole. This piece is an experiment on how darkness and blackouts affect the audience, possibly sparking thoughts around comfort/discomfort within the darkness. Other key themes in her research surround affordability and commercialism within the conversation of electrical infrastructure and capacity of light. This work will feature a talkback to facilitate critical thought and conversation surrounding light levels and how they affect performance.
